1. Primary Functions This committee leads physical and economic development initiatives within the Panchayat's jurisdiction. Its core operational areas include:
Agriculture and Allied Sectors: Agriculture, soil conservation, social forestry, animal husbandry, dairy development, and fisheries.
Small-Scale Industries: Promotion of cottage industries and small-scale business enterprises.
Planning: Directing and coordinating the preparation of the Panchayat's Annual Plans.
Data Collection: Gathering statistical data and conducting progress reviews required for development schemes.
2. Structure
Members: Elected from among the ward members. The number of committee members varies based on the total ward count of the Panchayat (typically between 3 to 5 members).
Chairperson: Committee members elect a Chairperson from among themselves. Since the Panchayat Vice President usually heads the Finance Standing Committee, another ward member serves as the Chairperson for the Development Standing Committee.
